Center of Excellence of Archipelagic Dryland (CoE ALRIC) of University of Nusa Cendana (UNDANA) was establish on 06 June 2016 based on the Rector Decree No. 711/KL/2016. Establishment of CoE ALRIC is part of the commitment of Rector of UNDANA to support the National Science Technology Policy of the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. The existence of this center of excellence is urgent and is relevant to strengthen the development of Archipelagic Dryland as the Core Scientific Model of UNDANA that was established in 1982. Establishment if CoE ALRIC is supported by Millennium Challenge Account Indonesia (MCA-I) through Consortium of Higher Education for Green Indonesia (Konsorsium Perguruan Tinggi untuk Indonesia Hijau, PETUAH).


Vision and Mission of CoE ALRIC

The vision of CoE ALRIC is: to become a frontier and professional center of excellence in conducting demand-driven research and education in archipelagic dryland agriculture to increase the welfare of dryland community.


Mission of CoE ALRIC is to develop science and technology innovation to: increase the dryland productivity, increase food and nutrition security, increase the farmer households’ income and resilience in East Nusa Tenggara (ENT), Indonesia and other regions in Asia and Africa through sustainable utilization of dryland resources.

Objectives:

  1. To increase the capacity and capability of CoE ALRIC as an internationally recognized Center of Excellence in the field of archipelagic dryland.
  2. To increase the relevance, productivity, and utilization of Science and Technology in goods and services production sectors of Archipelagic dryaland agriculture.
  3. To increase sustainable utilization of archipelagic dryland natural resources for improvement of community welfare.


Output of CoE Activity

The main outputs of CoE ALRIC activity are:

  1. Established research and development institution with the main focus on archipelagic dryland agriculture sector as the specific characteristic of East Nusa Tenggara Province.
  2. Demand-driven research and development institution is developed with the main focus on sustainable natural resource management and agriculture production on archipelagic dryland.
  3. Human resource potency in UNDANA is utilized in carrying out research and development in dryland agriculture sector, which leads to the availability of technology for utilization of archipelagic dryland natural resources maximally.
  4. Increased capacity of research and development activities on archipelagic dryland, which is internationally recognized.
